HC Deb 27 February 1933 vol 275 cc4-5
6. Mr. D. GRENFELL

asked the Secretary of State for India whether it is the intention of the Government of India to introduce the Reserve Bank Bill into the legislative assembly during the ensuing session; and, if so, whether Indian opinion will be consulted before the Bill is introduced?

Mr. BUTLER

I am not in a position to state when the Bill for setting up a Reserve Bank in India will be introduced into the Indian Legislature though, as the hon. Member will have realised from the references to the subject on pages 37–38 and 143 of the Round Table Conference Blue Book Cmd. 4238, the Government are anxious to bring a Reserve Bank into operation as early as practicable. From the passages to which I have referred, the hon. Member will see that my right hon. Friend has undertaken that representative Indian opinion would be consulted in the preparation of proposals for the establishment of the Reserve Bank.
