HC Deb 27 February 1933 vol 275 cc3-4
3. Mr. DAVID GRENFELL (for Dr. JOHN WILLIAMS)

asked the Secretary of State for India whether the Government of India have yet reached a decision, and, if so, what is its nature, with reference to the question of communal representation in the provincial and all-India services?

Mr. BUTLER

One-third of the vacancies in the all-India and central services which are filled by Indians are reserved for members of the minority communities. No modification of these arrangements is contemplated. It is for the various Provincial Governments to decide to what extent and in what manner representation of the minority communities shall be secured in the provincial services. If the hon. Member has in mind any possible alteration of the position after constitutional changes have been effected, I would ask him lo await the forthcoming White Paper.
