§ 6. Mr. G. HALLasked the Minister of Labour whether he will consider the advisability of calling a conference of industrial experts to consider the prac- 1151 ticability of absorbing more workers into industry by a reduction in the working day or, alternatively, the adoption of a system of each worker having one day off in five without any alteration in the existing daily hours of work; and to consider what would be the increased cost of production and distribution as a result?
§ Sir H. BETTERTONI have already had some consultation on this subject with the National Confederation of Employers' Organisations and the Trades Union Congress General Council, and I propose to take early steps to discuss with them the most appropriate methods by which the question of the absorption of more workers into industry may be examined in a practical manner.
