HC Deb 04 December 1933 vol 283 c1283
12. Sir ROBERT HAMILTON

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether a British representative has yet been appointed as a member of the permanent advisory committee of experts on slavery; and can he announce the name and qualifications of this gentleman?

Sir J. SIMON

The Permanent Advisory Committee on Slavery is a committee of experts and not of representatives of Governments. The Committee does, however, include a British member in the person of Sir George Maxwell, K.B.E., C.M.G., late Chief Secretary to the Government, Federated Malay States, whose wide experience of colonial affairs makes him a very suitable choice.

Sir R. HAMILTON

Will this information be placed at the disposal of the British member in order to help him in dealing with this matter?

Sir J. SIMON

Information, as far as we can supply it, will be at the disposal of the International Committee, and I imagine will be available to the British member.
