HC Deb 04 December 1933 vol 283 c1297
43. Mr. THORNE

asked the Home Secretary whether his attention has been drawn to the deaths of five workers employed at the British Celanese factory at Spondon, near Derby; whether he is making inquiries as to the cause of the deaths; and what action is to be taken to safeguard the employés?

Sir J. GILMOUR

Full inquiries are in progress, and meanwhile the manufacturing process in which these men were employed has, I am informed, been entirely discontinued. I should like to take this opportunity of expressing my deep sympathy with the relatives of the men.

Mr. T. WILLIAMS

Is the same process still employed in factories in any other part of the country?

Sir J. GILMOUR

I must have notice of that question.

Mr. THORNE

When the report is completed, will it be possible to have it circulated

Sir J. GILMOUR

I will have to consider that question.
