HC Deb 27 April 1933 vol 277 c258
46. Sir B. FALLE

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether commissioned gunners, commissioned gunners T, and commissioned boatswains, who are allowed to serve after reaching 50 years of age, are to be employed in shore appointments only, or whether they will be expected to serve afloat and thus not fill shore appointments to the detriment of officers under 50 years of age?

Captain WALLACE

It is not the intention to make any distinction as regards employment between officers of the branches concerned who are retained beyond the age of 50 and those under that age, and the former will therefore be expected to serve afloat if required.
