HC Deb 27 April 1933 vol 277 cc259-60
Mr. LANSBURY

May I ask the Lord President of the Council if he will tell us the business for next week?

The LORD PRESIDENT of the COUNCIL (Mr. Baldwin)

Monday: The Committee stage of the Ways and Means Resolution relating to the Trade Agreement which has been concluded between Germany and this country; afterwards, consideration of the Report stage of the Budget Resolutions.

Tuesday: Conclusion of the Report stage of the Budget and other financial Resolutions.

Wednesday: Second Reading of the Road and Rail Traffic Bill, and Committee stage of the necessary Money Resolutions.

The business for Thursday will be announced later.

On any day, if there is time, other Orders may be taken.

On Friday, Private Member's Bills will be considered.

Mr. LANSBURY

The right hon. Gentleman mentioned, among the business for Tuesday, "other financial Resolutions." May I ask to what Resolutions he was referring?

Mr. BALDWIN

The Report stage of the other financial Resolutions will comprise the Ways and Means Resolution relating to the German Trade Agreement, the Committee stage of which has been put down for Monday, and the Report stage of the Finance (Power to Borrow for Certain Financial Purposes) Resolution which was agreed to in Committee last night.

Sir HERBERT SAMUEL

With reference to the business for Monday, can the right hon. Gentleman say when the German Trade Agreement which is to be discussed will be made public and available to Members of the House?

Mr. BALDWIN

The White Paper containing the text of the Trade Agreement will be in the Vote Office at 6 o'clock tonight.

Sir J. NALL

May I ask when an opportunity will be afforded for a discussion on the Denmark Trade Agreement?

Mr. BALDWIN

I could not answer that question to-day. We must first get out of the way the Budget Resolutions. If the hon. Member will put that question next week, I will give him an answer.

Sir J. NALL

Is my right hon. Friend aware that there is very great alarm owing to the fact that the cotton textile industry has not been provided for in that Agreement?

Mr. BALDWIN

That alarm has not yet reached me.

Sir J. NALL

Is my right hon. Friend aware, also, that no specific representations for a quota on the same lines as for other industries was made to Denmark; and may I ask why no such representations were made?

Mr. BALDWIN

I would suggest that my hon. Friend should put down a question to the President of the Board -1 Trade on that matter.

Ordered, That the Proceedings of the Committee of Ways and Means have precedence this day of the Business of Supply."—[Mr. Baldwin.]
