HC Deb 04 April 1933 vol 276 cc1558-9
13. Mr. ROBINSON

asked the Secretary for Mines when it is proposed to introduce legislation to amend the Coal Mines Act, 1930; and whether the Government intend to ask for powers to insist that minimum prices for various classes of coal in the different districts shall bear some fixed relation to costs of production?

Mr. BROWN

I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply given by my right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade to a question asked by the hon. Member for Consett (Mr. Dickie) on 23rd March.

Sir NICHOLAS GRATTAN-DOYLE

Is the hon. Gentleman aware of the almost universal condemnation of Part I of the Coal Mines Act?

Mr. BROWN

The facts are as stated. "Almost universal" is a curious statement.
