HC Deb 25 October 1932 vol 269 c822
74. Miss WARD

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether in view of the unemployment on Tyneside, he will consider giving instructions for work on the destroyers recently allocated to the river to be put in hand immediately?

The FIRST LORD of the ADMIRALTY (Sir Bolton Eyres Monsell)

As announced in the Press the machinery for one cruiser and the hulls and machinery of four destroyers have been allocated to firms in the Tyne area. The contract for the machinery for the cruiser has already been placed and the contracts for the destroyers will be placed on 1st November.
