HC Deb 25 October 1932 vol 269 c820
72. Mr. MOLSON

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury how many judges' marshals received fees last year and in respect of how many days' service; and whether, in view of the need for retrenchment, the Government will make some more substantial reduction in their fees than the 10 per cent. already announced on the 23rd November, 1931?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

Forty-two judges' marshals were employed during the 12 months ended 31st March, 1932, for a total number of 1,627 days. Their fees amounted to £3,235 9s. 7d. A further reduction in addition to that made in September of last year is not at present under consideration.

Mr. CHARLES WILLIAMS

Can the hon. Member say if these judges' marshals perform any useful service, or are they merely ornamental?
