HC Deb 15 November 1932 vol 270 cc918-9
5. Mr. RHYS DAVIES

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he can make a statement showing the course of prices in manufactured articles subject to import duties, comparing the present level of prices with the prices that prevailed before the imposition of duties and making allowance for the depreciation in British currency owing to our going off the Gold Standard?

Dr. BURGIN

Sufficiently comprehensive information is not available to enable the precise comparison for which the hon. Member asks, but there is published quarterly in the Board of Trade Journal an estimate of the average values of the imports of articles classed as wholly or mainly manufactured, of which the greater proportion is now subject to import duties. I am sending the hon. Member a copy of the most recent article on the subject.
