asked the Minister of Agricul- ture whether there have been any fresh cases of foot-and-mouth disease in the Midlands; and whether the cause of the present outbreak has been ascertained?

A case of foot-and-mouth disease at Melton Mowbray was confirmed on the 9th November. There has been no other case in that area since. The origin of this outbreak has not yet been discovered, but investigations are proceeding.
