HC Deb 10 November 1932 vol 270 cc487-8
16. Mr. CHALMERS

asked the Home Secretary how long it ordinarily takes to obtain a royal licence to change name and arms; and how much it costs?

Sir J. GILMOUR

In straightforward cases of application for change of name and arms which can properly be recommended to the King, the necessary formal procedure occupies about a month. The fees payable (including stamp duty) are £63 12s. 6d. in the case of an application submitted in pursuance of a will or settlement.

Mr. CHALMERS

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that in one case at any rate it has taken over four months and is not yet completed, and is costing considerably more than the sum stated?

Mr. LAWSON

Could the right hon. Gentleman see his way clear to extend the time and increase the expense?

Mr. CHARLES WILLIAMS

May I ask how long it would take to change a Liberal into a Samuelite?
