HC Deb 10 November 1932 vol 270 c496
39. Mr. MANDER

asked the Minister of Health if his attention has been called to the proposed sale by auction of Beresford Dale, an area referred to in the report of the National Parks Committee as of outstanding national importance; and what action it is proposed to take with a view to preserving the site for the nation?

Sir H. YOUNG

I am aware of the matter referred to by the hon. Member, but I regret that I have no funds at my disposal for use in such cases, nor do I think that I should be justified at this time in putting pressure on local authorities to intervene.

Mr. MANDER

Will my right hon. Friend bear in mind that this very beautiful spot was the favourite fishing place of Izaak Walton and Charles Cotton, and will he use all the influence he has to preserve it?

Mr. HANNON

Perhaps the hon. Member for East Wolverhampton (Mr. Mandel) would purchase it for the nation?
