asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office what is the total strength of the foreign defence forces at Shanghai; and in what proportions is that strength distributed amongst the Powers of the International Settlement?

Excluding the Volunteer Corps, the strength of the foreign defence forces of the International Settlement at the present time is approximately 14,000, distributed among the several Powers as follows:
