HC Deb 30 May 1932 vol 266 c824
44. Lieut.-Colonel HENEAGE

asked the Minister of Agriculture what is the cause of the delay in dealing with the importation of foreign pig products; and whether his attention has been called to the difficulties that agriculturists are experiencing in maintaining breeding stocks of suitable pigs during the present uncertainty?

Sir J. GILMOUR

I fully appreciate the importance of the matters to which my hon. and gallant Friend calls attention, but I am not aware of any avoidable delay. Further action must wait the report of the Reorganisation Commission for pigs and pig products.

Lieut.-Colonel HENEAGE

Does that mean that the Reorganisation Commission has power to deal with the importation of foreign products?

Sir J. GILMOUR

No, Sir. My hon. and gallant Friend is well aware that under the terms of reference they have full power to inquire and produce every possible scheme, on which the Government may take action.

Mr. HURD

When may we expect a statement on this matter?

Sir J. GILMOUR

I cannot say definitely until the Commissioners report, but they are very well aware of the urgency of the matter.
