HC Deb 30 May 1932 vol 266 cc829-30
55. Mr. PERKINS

asked the Undersecretary of State for Air the total amount of subsidy paid to National Flying Services, Limited, and the total number of aerodromes provided by this company?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for AIR (Sir Philip Sassoon)

The total of the grants paid to National Flying Services amounts to £4,160; the company have so far provided or arranged for the provision of seven aerodromes.

Mr. PERKINS

Is my right hon. Friend satisfied that this company is doing a great deal of public good; and has it carried out its agreement with the Government?

Sir P. SASSOON

I think that my hon. Friend's next question covers that point.

56. Mr. PERKINS

asked the Undersecretary of State for Air whether he can give an assurance to the House that no subsidy will be given to National Flying Services, Limited, after the expiration of the existing agreement, in view of the fact that this company have failed to carry out their agreement with the Government?

Sir P. SASSOON

I would remind my hon. Friend that the undertaking on the part of National Flying Services to provide a certain number of aerodromes and landing grounds refers to a period which does not expire till 31st July next. The matter will receive very careful consideration in all its aspects, but I am not at present in a position to make any statement.

Mr. PERKINS

Will my right hon. Friend give the House an assurance that no secret agreement or understanding will be arrived at with this company until the 3lst July next?

Sir P. SASSOON

That is so.
