§ Sir S. HOAREI have been asked to reply. Disturbances between Arabs and Jews occurred on 23rd, 24th and 25th May. The situation was dealt with satisfactorily by the police, supported on 25th May by armoured cars. There have been no disturbances since that date. There were no fatal casualties. The number of persons known to have been injured is 60, and seven were detained in hospital for treatment.
§ Colonel WEDGWOODCan the right hon. Gentleman tell me what is the name of the Governor, and whether he is under the India Office or the Colonial Office?
§ Sir S. HOAREI am afraid I do not recall the name of the Governor.
§ Earl WINTERTONDo I understand my right hon. Friend to say that he accepts the statement made by the right hon. and gallant Gentleman opposite, that the attacks were actually made on the Jews by the Arabs; and, if so, can he say what was the primary cause of the outbreak?
