HC Deb 24 May 1932 vol 266 cc173-4
7. Mr. LEWIS

asked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs if he has any further statement to make with regard to the relations between this country and the Irish Free State?

Mr. THOMAS

I have nothing to add to the statements which I have already made.

11. Mr. MANDER

asked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs whether any consultation has now taken place with the other members of the British Commonwealth of Nations with regard to the controversy with the Irish Free State as affected by the Ottawa Conference?

Mr. THOMAS

As I have already made clear, the issues at the moment are between this country and the Irish Free State, inasmuch as they relate to the interpretation of the Treaty of 1921 and other Agreements forming part of the Settlement then reached between the two countries. His Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom have naturally taken steps to keep the other Dominion Governments informed of the position.

Mr. HANNON

Would it not be better, in view of the grave interests raised by this matter, that questions of this kind should not be put on the Paper?
