HC Deb 13 May 1932 vol 265 cc2309-10
1. Mr. HERBERT WILLIAMS

asked the Minister of Transport if the London and Home Counties Joint Electricity Authority have purchased the Caterham Electricity Undertaking and, if so, at what price; and what was the original capital expended on the transferred property and by how much has this been written down.

The MINISTER of TRANSPORT (Mr. Pybus)

I am informed that the London and Home Counties Joint Electricity Authority have not yet purchased the Caterham Undertaking, but have made an application to the Electricity Commissioners for their consent to the acquisition of the undertaking. The matter is at present under consideration by the Commissioners.

2. Mr. WILLIAMS

asked the Minister of Transport whether the sum of £294,000, purporting to be the capital expenditure on the assets of the Leatherhead and District Electricity undertaking transferred to the London and Home Counties Joint Electricity Authority, represented the amount of capital originally expended or the amount so expended less depreciation.

Mr. PYBUS

I am informed that the company's accounts indicated that the expenditure of £294,000 represented the original cost of assets existing at the date of transfer.

Mr. WILLIAMS

Can the Minister say how much has been written down in the books?

Mr. PYBUS

Perhaps the hon. Member will put that question on the Order Paper.
