HC Deb 12 May 1932 vol 265 c2083
63. Mr. HICKS

asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office what was the total personnel employed at the Royal Arsenal, Woolwich, at the 31st March, 1931, or the nearest approximate date, with similar figures for the same date in 1928, 1929, and 1930?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the WAR OFFICE (Mr. Duff Cooper)

The numbers of employés of industrial and non-industrial grades, male and female, at the various War Department establishments at the Royal Arsenal, Woolwich, on the 1st April in each of the years 1928–1931 were approximately:

1928 11,200
1929 11,370
1930 11,250
1931 10,990
Mr. HICKS

In view of the fact that there is a certain personnel always required for the Arsenal, does the hon. Gentleman think that it is rather under the number required now?

Mr. COOPER

Not under.
