HC Deb 12 May 1932 vol 265 cc2081-2
58. Lieut.-Colonel MOORE

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether his attention has been called to the fact that only 40 out of the 50 police stations in the county of Ayr are provided with telephones; and whether he will, in co-operation with the Post Office authorities, remedy this state of affairs at the earliest opportunity?

The SECRETARY of STATE for SCOTLAND (Major Sir Archibald Sinclair)

I understand that the police committee and chief constable are of the opinion that telephones have been installed in all police stations in the county where they are at present necessary. At a few outlying stations telephones are not meantime required, and their installation would in some cases involve heavy expenditure which cannot justifiably be incurred in present financial circumstances.
