HC Deb 12 May 1932 vol 265 cc2064-5
57. Lord APSLEY

asked the Minister of Transport whether the posts of con- suiting engineer and adviser to the Ministry on road and traffic questions, and chairman of the London and Home Counties Traffic Advisory Committee, are honorary posts, or whether the holders are in receipt of any remuneration or fees commensurate with the tasks imposed?

Lieut. - Colonel Sir A. LAMBERT WARD (Lord of the Treasury)

I have been asked to reply. These two positions are occupied by Sir Henry Maybury. As consulting engineer and adviser to the Ministry on road questions he receives a fee of £l,000 a year, subject to the special economy deduction of 10 per cent. He holds the position of chairman of the London and Home Counties Traffic Advisory Committee by the election of that committee, on which he serves as the Minister's representative and this position is honorary.

Lord APSLEY

With regard to the first position, for which I understand this gentleman receives a fee, may I ask whether he is also in receipt of a Civil Service pension, and whether the same gentleman is connected in any way with any company or combination of companies engaged in the production of road material?

Sir A. LAMBERT WARD

I will convey the Noble Lord's supplementary question to my hon. Friend.
