HC Deb 12 May 1932 vol 265 cc2082-3
60. Mr. LEONARD

asked the Postmaster-General when he anticipates that the British Broadcasting Corporation will submit to him the general report and statement of accounts for the year 1931; and when he expects to be in a position to publish them?

The ASSISTANT POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Mr. Graham White)

The British Broadcasting Corporation have recently submitted their report and accounts for 1931, and my right hon. Friend hopes to lay them before Parliament at an early date.

61. Mr. LEONARD

asked the Postmaster-General whether the grant of £1,366,000 to the British Broadcasting Corporation, contained in the Post Office Estimates for 1932–33, includes a grant for the presentation of grand opera at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden; and, if so, what sum?

Mr. GRAWAM WHITE

The amount of £1,366,000 shown in the Post Office Estimates as payable to the British Broadcasting Corporation, includes the sum of £6l7,500 payable to the corporation under the Supplemental Agreement of the 11th of June, 1931 (Command Paper No. 3884), in respect of the provision of performances of opera.

Mr. LEONARD

Can the hon. Gentleman inform me what sum in that total is for the presentation of opera in the provinces?

Mr. WHITE

I would like to have notice of that question.
