HC Deb 10 May 1932 vol 265 c1707
62. Lieut.-Colonel MOORE

asked the Secretary to the Overseas Trade Department what assistance is being given by the Canadian authorities to ensure the success of the visit to that country of the Scottish trade ship "Letitia"?

Mr. JOHN COLVILLE (Secretary, Overseas Trade Department)

As I stated in reply to a question put on the 25th April by my right hon. Friend the Member for the Hillhead Division of Glasgow (Sir R. Home) the Canadian Minister of Trade and Commerce has undertaken to deliver an address of welcome at the opening ceremony when the ship arrives at Montreal on the 16th May. I am glad, too, to be able to state that a number of prominent local business men have formed a Canadian Advisory Committee, on which His Majesty's Senior Trade Commissioner in Canada is serving, to assist in furthering the objects of the mission.

Mr. LOUIS SMITH

May I ask whether during the short period before the boat reaches Canada something more will be done to help this mission on behalf of our Scottish friends?

Mr. COLVILLE

Those who are organising the mission are satisfied that in the steps taken in this matter we are doing everything possible to encourage the mission.
