§ The route mileage of the Indian rail way system on 31st March, 1932, was approximately 42,687. Of this,
17,692 | miles were State-owned lines worked by the State. |
14,232 | miles were State-owned lines worked by companies. |
6,459 | miles were owned by Indian States and district boards. |
