§ 6. Mr. MORGAN JONES(for Mr. RHYS DAVIES) asked the Secretary of State for India whether any steps are being taken by the Government of India to reduce the sale of opium manufactured at the Government of India's factory at Ghazipur for consumption in India; and what progress has been made in limiting the number of shops in India from which this opium can be purchased?
§ Sir S. HOAREThe distribution and sale of opium in the Provinces of British India is under the control of Ministers responsible to their respective Councils. The amount of opium manufactured at Ghazipur for consumption in India depends upon the demand from the Provinces. There has been a substantial and progressive reduction in recent years.
