HC Deb 07 March 1932 vol 262 c1457
13. Mr. COCKS

asked the Secretary of State for India whether he can make a statement on the present position in Kashmir?

4. Mr. HICKS

asked the Secretary of State for India the present position in respect of the recent disturbed conditions in Kashmir?

Sir S. HOARE

I am circulating a statement in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Mr. COCKS

Has the attention of the right hon. Gentleman been called to the statement that the advocate defending the Moslems on trial has been ordered to leave Kashmir, and will he take steps to see that the Moslems get a fair trial?

Sir S. HOARE

I think that the hon. Member had better put that question down, as I do not quite follow its application to the original question.

Following is the statement:

The situation continues to be quiet and no reports of further disturbances have been communicated to me during the past week. Lieut.-Colonel Colvin has taken up his duties as Prime Minister. I understand that it is hoped that the report of the committee presided over by Mr. Glancy which has been investigating the grievances of the Moslem population, as well as that of Mr. Middleton who has been enquiring into the facts of the disturbances of last autumn, will shortly be in the hands of the Maharaja.
