HC Deb 02 March 1932 vol 262 c1100
7. Captain P. MACDONALD

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if any parts of the British Overseas Empire under his control have made any representations to him with regard to the free-list exemptions and exclusions there-from in the Import Duties Bill; and, if so, what those representations were and to what extent they were met?

Sir P. CUNLIFFE-LISTER

I received representations from the producers in East Africa on the subject of the inclusion of hemp in Schedule 1 to the Import Duties Act, and, as my hon. and gallant Friend is aware, this House approved the exclusion. I am in constant communication with the Governors of the Colonies and Protectorates on fiscal matters, but I am sure my hon. and gallant Friend will realise that it is impossible for me to disclose the contents of confidential communications of this kind.
