HC Deb 02 March 1932 vol 262 c1093
18. Captain HAROLD BALFOUR

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Air whether he will take powers to cause gas containers in the vicinity of recognised airports to be lighted at night, and in day conditions of poor visibility, as in the case with masts at certain wireless telegraph stations?

Sir P. SASSOON

As at present advised, my Noble Friend does not contemplate applying for special powers in this connection. I may point out that the existing regulations require that suitable signals shall be placed, as far as possible, on fixed obstacles dangerous to flying within a zone of 500 yards of all aerodromes.

Captain BALFOUR

Is my right hon. Friend aware of the disastrous consequences that would follow to a neighbourhood such as Southall if the gasometer were hit by an aeroplane?

Sir P. SASSOON

Yes, Sir. I have said that these regulations are in existence.
