HC Deb 27 June 1932 vol 267 cc1464-5
36. Mr. ALAN TODD

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will state what steps he is taking to advertise abroad the amenities of industrial districts in this country at present suffering severely from the world depression; and, in particular, what steps his Department is taking to thus advertise the amenities of the district covered by the South Staffordshire coalfield?

Mr. COLVILLE

I would refer my hon. Friend to the scheme for organised national publicity abroad prepared by the Travel and Industrial Association of Great Britain and Ireland, and submitted by them to the associations which have been or are being formed in many parts of the country for the purpose of stimulating industrial development. Under the scheme, the local associations will collect information regarding the industrial facilities and opportunities offered in their areas and this will be disseminated abroad by or through the association. It is open to the authorities in the district covered by the South Staffordshire coalfield to join in this scheme.

Mr. T. WILLIAMS

Is the hon. Gentleman quite sure that any amenities do exist in this coalfield?

Mr. COLVILLE

I believe they do.
