HC Deb 27 June 1932 vol 267 c1470
34. Mr. HUTCHISON

asked the Attorney-General whether he can now state the result of the consideration he has given to the recent case in the Chancery Court in which a women was refused a committal order against her husband for non-compliance with an order of the Divorce Court to pay alimony because the judge had no jurisdiction in the matter; and whether he contemplates legislation in the early future to deal with this class of case?

The ATTORNEY-GENERAL (Sir Thomas Inskip)

There is a possibility that the change which the hon. Member has in mind can be effected without legislation, and this aspect of the matter is now under consideration.

Mr. HUTCHISON

Can the right hon. and learned Gentleman hasten this legislation in view of the fact that many women cannot get their alimony?

The ATTORNEY-GENERAL

I am doing my best to hasten the necessary steps.
