HC Deb 23 June 1932 vol 267 c1248
34 and 35. Mr. COCKS

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) the total cost to the State since the Armistice of the various Royal Commissions, which have been set up during that time;

(2) how many Royal Commissions have been set up since the Armistice; how many of these Commissions have presented their final reports; and how many of these reports have formed the basis of subsequent legislation?

Major ELLIOT

The Royal Commissions borne on the Treasury Vote for Royal Commissions, etc., appointed since the Armistice, number 27. Final reports have been issued in 25 cases. In 15 cases the reports have formed the basis of subsequent legislation. In some cases, of course, and these not necessarily the least important, the recommendations do not involve legislation. The expenditure to date is approximately £90,000.

Mr. HERBERT WILLIAMS

Do these figures include Royal Commissions which are engaged in administrative duties like the Royal Commission on Ancient and Historic Monuments?

Major ELLIOT

They include all Royal Commissions which are borne on the Treasury Vote.
