HC Deb 23 June 1932 vol 267 cc1238-9
27. Mr. LECKIE

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware of the situation arising from the fact that public assistance committees are prohibited from granting unemployed single men any outdoor relief; and whether he will consider some relaxation of the regulations during the present period of widespread unemployment?

The MINISTER of HEALTH (Sir Hilton Young)

The hon. Member is under a misapprehension, and no such prohibition as he suggests is in operation, the matter being one within the discretion of the public assistance committee.
