HC Deb 23 June 1932 vol 267 c1264
62. Major Sir HERBERT CAYZER

asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office whether any Belgian or other foreign eggs are being supplied to any home service units; and whether he will undertake to arrange that only British or Empire eggs shall in future be supplied?

Mr. COOPER

Eggs do not form part of the soldier's ration. The only eggs purchased by the War Office are for hospitals and schools and all new-laid eggs so purchased are of home origin. The eggs on sale to the troops in the Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes are home, Empire, and foreign and I cannot undertake to prevent the troops and their families from buying foreign eggs, if they wish to do so.
