HC Deb 22 June 1932 vol 267 cc1092-3
28. Mr. THORNE

(for Mr. McENTEE) asked the Minister of Transport the latest information in his possession as to what progress has been made in the promotion of schemes of railway electrification, more especially on the London and North Eastern and Southern Railways?

Mr. PYBUS

The Southern Railway Company have informed me that they are at present proceeding with a scheme for electrifying the line between London, Brighton and Worthing. The section covering Redhill and Three Bridges will be open for electric traction next month, and the company anticipate that the whole scheme will be completed at the end of the year. The London and North Eastern Railway Company state that they have schemes of London suburban electrification under consideration, and that in the event of the London Transport Bill becoming law they will be prepared to submit proposals to the Standing Joint Committee of the Transport Board and the railway companies which the Bill proposed to set up.
