HC Deb 22 June 1932 vol 267 c1092
26. Mr. LEES-JONES

asked the Minister of Transport the estimated cost of architectural bronze and other ornamental treatment on the new Chiswick and Twickenham bridges; and the estimated total cost of each bridge?

Mr. PYBUS

The estimated cost of bronze and other ornamental treatment for the new Twickenham Bridge is £17,560. Although ornamental in appearance the bronze serves strictly practical purposes. No bronze work is being applied to the Chiswick Bridge. Neither of the bridges is elaborate in its architectural design, and use and beauty are too inseparably wedded to enable their respective cost to be assessed. The total costs of construction are estimated at £227,000 for the Chiswick Bridge and £221,500 for the Twickenham Bridge.
