§ 38. Brigadier-General NATIONasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that a recent decision of the Danish Committee of Foreign Exchanges will prevent currency being available for the importation into Denmark of certain goods from Great Britain; and whether he is making any representations in the matter?
§ Mr. HORE-BELISHAYes, Sir; particulars of the restrictions in question have now been received, and are being examined.
§ 39. Mr. O'CONNORasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware of the difficulties which Nottingham merchants are experiencing in obtaining payment for goods consigned to firms in Denmark, which are prevented by the decree of the Danish Government from obtaining the necessary foreign exchange; and whether he will cause representations to be made to the Danish Government that sufficient foreign exchange should be released to its nationals to enable them to meet their trade obligations?
§ Mr. HORE-BELISHAI understand that exchange difficulties in Denmark have in some cases resulted in delay in payment for goods sent from this country, but His Majesty's Minister at Copenhagen has been able to render valuable assistance in this matter, and I would advise Nottingham merchants to communicate with him in regard to any exchange difficulties which they may be experiencing.
§ Mr. O'CONNORI am very much obliged to my hon. Friend. Will he go so far as to agree with me that there is something rotten in the State of Denmark?
§ Mr. HORE-BELISHAI am afraid there is a good deal that is rotten in many States.
