HC Deb 12 July 1932 vol 268 c1094
16. Brigadier-General NATION

asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office from what source the Queen's Army schoolmistresses are obtained; and whether they are provided with living quarters in Government buildings?

Mr. COOPER

Candidates for these appointments consist of Army pupil teachers and others with Army connections whose qualifications are recognised as adequate, and also of civilians who have been already certificated in civil schools or who have completed adequate training in a civil training college. As regards the second part of the question, Queen's Army Schoolmistresses are provided with quarters when serving abroad. Those serving at home may be accommodated in quarters if they are so desirous and quarters are available. When they are not provided with quarters, a higher rate of pay is received.

Brigadier-General NATION

How many of these ladies are serving at home and how many abroad?

Mr. COOPER

I could not say without notice.
