HC Deb 12 July 1932 vol 268 cc1116-7
78. Mr. PICKERING

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether in view of the possibility of increasing gold production at a profitable rate revealed by the Gold Coast geological survey, he is prepared to help the industry by affording financial assistance to enable new machinery to be installed, means of transport improved, and the application of hydro-electric power made available wherever necessary?

Sir P. CUNLIFFE-LISTER

No, Sir. I regret that the present financial position of the colony makes it impossible to consider the question of affording assistance for such purposes.
