HC Deb 11 July 1932 vol 268 c879
29. Sir CYRIL COBB

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will inquire of the newly appointed Mexican Minister accredited to Great Britain what the Mexican Government is now doing to repay the sums owing to British investors who entrusted their savings to the Mexican Government, and in respect of which, with the exception of certain small payments, the interest has been in default for 18 years?

Sir J. SIMON

I would refer my hon. Friend to the full statement issued by the International Committee of Bankers an Mexico on the 21st June, of which a summary appeared in the City column of the "Times" the same day. I do not consider that an inquiry of the nature proposed would, in the circumstances, serve any useful purpose.
