HC Deb 04 July 1932 vol 268 c22
49. Mr. McENTEE

asked the First Commissioner of Works whether the right of reproduction from certain pictures in the Palace of Westminster is a private monopoly; what sum was paid for the privilege; and when it is proposed to terminate this monopoly?

Mr. ORMSBY-GORE

The copyright of certain pictures is, under the Copyright Act of 1911, vested in the artists, who have made arrangements with publishing firms to sell reproductions. I am quite unable to say what the financial arrangements may have been. The property cannot be abolished in the absence of new statutory provision.
