asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer on what grounds the decision was taken to place unset precious stones on the free list, in view of the declared intention of the Government to raise revenue on luxury imports?

I would ask my hon. Friend to await the Committee stage of the Import Duties Bill.

Are we to understand that the Government are afraid of the cry being raised, "Your tiaras will cost you more"?
