HC Deb 16 February 1932 vol 261 c1458
30. Mr. McENTEE (for Mr. DUNCAN GRAHAM)

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that registration of title to the Kilsyth Municipal Bank Company, Limited, has been refused; whether he is aware that the decision of the Kilsyth Town Council was unanimous to inaugurate the company, and that every previous municipal bank company has been a great success, encouraging thrift and saving money to the ratepayers; and whether he will inquire into the matter?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I would refer the hon. Member to the report of the Committee on Municipal Savings Banks (Cmd. 3014 of 1928) and to their conclusions by which the Board of Trade were guided in arriving at their decision to withhold their consent under Section 17 (2) of the Companies Act, 1929, to the use of the word "Municipal" in the name of the proposed company.

Mr. THORNE

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that all the municipal banks in Birmingham are doing exceedingly well?
