HC Deb 15 February 1932 vol 261 c1274
48. Sir NAIRNE STEWART SANDEMAN

asked the Postmaster-General whether he will consider the practicability of introducing a reduced rate for long-distance telephone calls on Saturdays and Sundays, on which days the lines are least busy, as many people who now hesitate to make a distant call would make use of this facility?

Sir K. WOOD

Substantially reduced rates on long-distance telephone calls are already available on Saturday and Sunday afternoons and evenings (as well as on other days), and considerable advantage is taken of them.

Sir N. STEWART SANDEMAN

Are we to understand that the[...]re is a cheaper price than the old reduced rates after eight o'clock if there is, will my right hon. Friend give publicity to the fact?

Sir K. WOOD

I will see what can be done in that connection.
