35. Lieut.-Colonel HENEAGE

asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office how many remounts have been purchased from foreign countries, the Irish Free State, and Great Britain, respectively, during the past year?

Mr. COOPER

For the year ended 31st January last the figures were:

Great Britain 789
Irish Free State 350
Foreign countries 1

Lieut.-Colonel HENEAGE

Has my hon. Friend received any report from various interests pointing out that there are a great many horses available, and has he also the idea that it is better to buy British horses than horses from overeseas?

Mr. COOPER

I have received no such representations, but I have got the idea mentioned by my hon. and gallant Friend. As I said in my answer, no horses have been bought from overseas.
