71. Mr. V. ADAMSasked the President of the Board of Trade whether there are any exports of arms and ammunition being made from this country to China and Japan; what is the amount of them; and whether the Government will take steps to prohibit such exports?
§ Mr. RUNCIMANAs stated in the reply given to the hon. Member for Broxtowe (Mr. Seymour Cocks) on let December last, the value of the domestic exports of arms, ammunition and military and naval stores from the United Kingdom consigned during the first 10 months of 1931 to China and Japan was £40,613 and £147,112, respectively. During the last two months of the year the corresponding figures were £4,865 and £55,699, respectively. As regards the last part of the question, it is not at present proposed to withhold licences for the, exportation of arms to the countries in question.
