HC Deb 04 February 1932 vol 261 c261
82. Mr. D. GRAHAM

asked the Secretary for Mines whether any consideration has been given to the proposal to establish an oil quota for the purpose of benefiting the shale oil industry?

Mr. ISAAC FOOT

The late Labour Government had under consideration proposals, including that for a quota scheme, with the object of assisting the Scottish shale oil industry. The question was reviewed last October by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Colonies while he was President of the Board of Trade, who then gave the House, in reply to a question, the reasons which led him to the conclusion that he could not usefully pursue the matter further. There has been no change in the circumstances since that date.
