HC Deb 04 February 1932 vol 261 c256
67. Mr. EVERARD

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he can now say whether arrangements are being made to supply home-fed beef and flour milled from home-grown wheat to the fighting services wherever practicable?

Sir J. GILMOUR

The Government have given very careful consideration to the question of supplying the fighting services with home-fed beef but it is not practicable at the present time, owing to the financial stringency, to adopt this proposal. With regard to flour milled from home-grown wheat the position is that national mark flour is already used wherever reasonably practicable.

Mr. EVERARD

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that this is a matter of very great importance to the whole trade of this country; and from the point of view of the balance of trade, is it not far better to keep this money in our own country?

Lieut. - Colonel ACLAND - TROYTE

Will not the Government themselves act on the slogan, "Buy British"?
