HC Deb 12 December 1932 vol 273 cc20-1
31. Mrs. TATE

asked the Postmaster-General the annual amount spent in advertising the telephone service to the public under the title Get a 'phone for 2s. 6d. a week?

Sir K. WOOD

The amount expended on the telephone advertising campaign this year is approximately £30,000, and has, I believe, had a considerable measure of success and has been generally approved.

Mrs. TATE

In view of the fact that it is impossible to get a telephone for 2s. 6d. per week, without a previous deposit, does the Minister think that it is quite right to attempt to deceive the public?

Sir K. WOOD

I cannot expect to satisfy the hon. Member. This is the first complaint that I have received in this connection, although the Postmaster-General has been criticised in many other ways.
